Introduction to embodiment: Theory and clinical practice
A graduate level introduction to Embodiment integrating theoretical and experiential foundations to inform personal and clinical practice.
-
This course (MFT 677) is designed to explore the major theoretical, philosophical, clinical, and scientific foundations of embodiment, and create opportunities for students to encounter their own embodiment through phenomenological exercise and embodiment practices. Special attention will be given to how to make use of theory, research, and practice of embodiment as it supports psychotherapy both for the person providing care, and for the person receiving care.
-
Participation in this course for auditing students is limited to individuals with some graduate level coursework in clinical counselling skills, and/or those who are currently in a graduate program (masters or doctoral level) in counselling or clinical psychology, social work, or pastoral ministry, and/or hold a license to practice psychotherapy or social work or psychiatry.
Training
I love you, I hate you, Are you my mom?
A deep dive into transference and countertransference, and how to work with it.
-
Whether or not we know how to identify it or work with it, transference and countertransference are the fabric of our interpersonal experiences, shaping the qualities of our interactions in all areas of our lives but especially within the therapeutic relationship. Learning to identify (counter) transference and the skills to harness it for the client’s good can allow us to grow personally and professionally, helping us understand ourselves and our clients, while learning how to show up with more skill and confidence in a clinical setting.
This training will include some didactic elements about transference (including the neurobiological understanding of implicit memory encoding related to attachment patterns), but will mostly focus on experiential learning through demos, exercises, and dyad work, with a particular emphasis on working in the Here and Now.
-
This training is designed for mental health clinicians who are currently licensed and practicing, such as psychologists, masters level therapists, psych NPs, psychiatrists, etc. Although we appreciate that others, including trainees and community members, may be interested in this content, the material covered assumes prior clinical experience. This training will also require a high degree of self-reflexivity, willingness to investigate and tend to one's own reactions.

Ketamine-assisted therapy training
Experiential ketamine training program through Katalyst Mental Health
-
A new experiential ketamine training program that is focused on how to work therapeutically with clients during individual ketamine sessions. There are many training programs that currently exist, and most of them focus on how to work with clients using a more passive ‘sitter’ model. For this reason we have designed a series of trainings to support you to learn more about working with clients in an attentive, attuned, relational, and active way while using a psychedelic medicine. We believe it makes sense for us to work in the psychedelic space using the same orientation that we rely on in our typical therapy work, making use of attuned relational interventions to support corrective experiences in the here and now.
-
This training model is designed to augment learning for clinicians who already registered and practice psychotherapy or counselling and/or have completed at least an MA/MEd in Counselling or equivalent. We also accept trainees with different credentials (psychiatrists, Psych NPs, chaplains) wherein they already have credentials or a license to work therapeutically with individuals.
